Art and History Museum

A thousand years.... of Fribourg's art and history located in a Renaissance palazzo, a former abattoir and a romantic garden. Fascinating exhibitions.

Spread over three old buildings in the town of Fribourg, the museum has a magnificent garden in front of it adorned with monumental sculptures by Saint Phalle, Luginbühl, Ramseyer, Wiggli and Angéloz.

Among the museum's many displays you will find a collection of local archaeology, objects presenting Fribourg's political and cultural life and sculptures and paintings from the 11th to the 20th centuries.

Espace Jean Tinguely-Niki de St-Phalle

A mythical couple... Jean Tinguely uand Niki de Saint- Phalle count among the most significant artists of theh 20th century. Discover their works in a magical place!

Jean Tinguely was a genius of moving art. His sculptures gradually evolved towards works appealing to several senses at the same time: sight, hearing, touch and sometimes even smell.

Niki de St Phalle, a French-born artist, was Jean Tinguely's wife. Her most striking works are probably the "Nanas".

Swiss Sewing-machine Museum

Swiss Sewing-machine Museum

Located in the centre of the town of Fribourg in a vaulted 12th century cellar, the Swiss Sewing Machine and Unusual Objects Museum presents pieces from around the world, ranging from the sewing-machine to the iron and the mechanical vacuum cleaner.

The museum offers a collection of over 250 sewing machines from the 19th and 20th centuries, used in households but also in the shops of fabric and leather artisans. Rediscover household methods used in Switzerland and elsewhere over the past two centuries.

Swiss Puppet Museum

Swiss Puppet Museum

Discover historical and contemporary puppets made using all kinds of techniques, as well as scenery and accessories belonging to the different cultures of Europe, Asia and Africa.

Founded in 1985 by Jean Bindschedler, a painter, sculptor and creator of puppets, the Swiss Puppet Museum now has a collection of over 3'000 pieces. These puppets, masks, shadows and paper theatres make up a collection that is unique in Switzerland.

A video-viewing area, a space for playing with puppets, a library and archives are also at the disposal of visitors.

Founded in 1937, the Botanical Garden of Fribourg is the only bilingual botanical Garden of Switzerland.

The Botanic Garden is divided into 20 different sectors with about 5'000 botanical species. 3 sectors are dedicated to public greenhouses, on a surface of 1,5 hectares. The diversity is one of the stakes of the garden.

Across the Screen

Across the Screen

“Across the screen” is a museum with a private collection of more than 300 original objects and replicas on movies and series.

Vincent Brügger started collecting toys of the Star Wars movies when he was 10 years old. Since 2015, his collection has grown and has more than 500 objects now. About 300 are presented in the museum “Across the screen”.

The collection covers various films and fantastical universe. As for example Ghostbusters, Harry Potter, the Lord of the Rings, Matrix and dozens of other movies and series.

Sensler Museum

The Museum, which is located in a wooden house from 1780, protrays, in its permanent exhibition, the life in the region by five themes: language, history, customs, economy andmusic.
